I grew up in globalization

Maybe this entry is more likely to be global than previous ones. As a globalization is one of the food problem causes in the world let's take closer look at it.

Two days ago I watched a movie "The Economics of Happiness". Most of the food we buy in the supermarkets and serve for the meals comes from the other side of the world. At least they have traveled a lot, perhaps, more than anybody of us had. Apples from Netherlands goes to Africa for the waxing and then returns home to be driven to Latvia, for example. Have you ever been in Africa?

Movie producers speaks about importance of agricultural localization as the only way how to escape of the global environmental crisis as well as a food crisis.
I think Latvians are lucky nation, because we still have such a good land and possibility to grove our own food - country side is still available even for the citizens, we have eco markets on Saturdays and Sundays, we can rent piece of land in rural allotments, we have biological food chains with a option to buy food straightly from the farmers. Of course we are also the victims of globalization - we like to eat in McDonalds, buy cheap chinese shoes and drink Pepsi. But we still has an option.
People from the countries where the population is more higher, actually has no other chance to move to the cities and work for the low salaries under bad job conditions. In some areas in India agriculture has been adapted just for the needs of export. People work there to feed West side of the world. The arguments usually maintain the help for the developing countries - export gives them money for surviving. It is lie actually. The rest of the food which stays in their countries is not enough to feed themselves, but the money from the food export goes to the wealthy companies and magnates. People from the country sides, farmers - they never get paid enough for their work.
As we know from previous entries and talks all over the world, here, in the most parts of Europe and USA, we throw away amazing amount of food, which, yes, sometimes has traveled around the world making high impact on climate and leaving somebody in developing countries hungry. Somebody? A lot.
We are not alone in this world. I am not ready to support with a wealth big and irresponsible companies, giants with no soul. Have you ever have looked behind the brands? (http://www.behindthebrands.org) How they treat their workers and how much we actually pay for our chocolate and drinks with unprotected people suffer and happiness? I hope that at least you are happy.
