All the good for the soup

I am not against the soup kitchens, where the people can come and get warm meal once or twice per day. Especially it is important in Nordic countries during the cold winter times. Soup kitchens are power for homeless people.
I do not admire those supermarkets, who asks for the public charity to provide these soup kitchens with their food. You put your money into the box with a text "soup kitchen" and go home happy. I will try to visualize how it looks in the reality. There is a enough food after work days in the shops, which doesn't gets to the customers kitchens. It gets to the trash. However, supermarkets, getting money from the "charity box", buys even more and produces even more food for the soup kitchens.
I think that the best charity for the poor people and our planet would be opportunity to give away food which will not be utilized in the supermarkets anyway.
Supermarkets are not willing to tell how many kilos of food they throw away each day - small shops about 2 kilos, bigger ones - 30 and more. Latvian Traders association has counted that the real number from all the food shops in Latvia could be 20 tons of thrown out food every day!

So maybe supermarkets should make the "Give away food box" instead of "Money box"?
